Scene Synopsis - SAVING JAMIE

SCENE GRAB:
Rick comes to save Jamie from the self-destructive path he's been on since he accidentally shot, and killed, Rick's little brother, Billy.

SYNOPSIS:
Rick arrives at Jamie's run down shack and finds a total pigsty. It's freezing outside, so after calling out several times and receiving no answer, he goes inside.

He finds a photo of Jamie, Rick and Rick's little brother, Billy, when they were "The Three Musketeers". The glass has been broken and Rick is holding the photo when Jamie appears - in shorts and bare feet, oblivious to the freezing cold. He's carrying a rifle.

Jamie tells Rick he has nothing to say to him, and prepares to snort some cocaine ... Rick tries to convince Jamie that the shooting was an accident, and that he could kill himself doing drugs while he's like this.

Jamie says he was out trying to shoot himself when Rick arrived, but he can't pull the trigger. Today would've been Billy's 17th birthday, and looking at Rick, Jamie realises that Rick can do one more thing for him. He hands him the gun and asks him to shoot him in the head - like Jamie did to Billy.

Rick, in pain for his lost brother, collapses to the floor in distress, holding the gun, crawling away from Jamie. Jamie doesn't see Rick empty the bullets from the gun.

When they've both retraced the events of that fateful morning, Jamie is ready to end his own life.

He holds the gun to his own head, and Rick says he can't watch. Jamie tells him to close his eyes, and counts down from 5.

Click. Nothing happens. Rick opens his clenched fist, drops the bullets on the table, and walks out.

** For younger actors we should warn that there is some strong launguage in this scene and the use of a rifle which is not fired. **
