Day After Tomorrow - First Page

HOSPITAL WARD - LATE MORNING
AMY is lying in a hospital bed. She is very pale and without any energy. There are flowers, magazines, boxes of tissues, and a jug of water and a half filled glass of water on the table beside the bed. There's also a phone by the bed.

AMY reaches for the glass of water, and catches sight of the bandages on her wrist. She is overcome with emotion, and as the tears flow she buries her head in her hands and sobs.

TRISH appears at the door, with a few magazines and a little gift wrapped in cellophane. TRISH immediately puts the magazines and gift down, and quickly extracts some tissues from the box and sits on the bed next to AMY. TRISH puts her arms around AMY to comfort her, and when she's ready, she hands AMY some tissues.

AMY: I'm sorry, Trish. I -

And she looks at her wrist.

AMY: - I just want it to end.

TRISH: (hugging her desperately) Amy, please, don't talk like that.

AMY: - but I can't live without him. I can't. He was in every pore of my body, Trish. I loved him so much.

TRISH: I know.

AMY: The pain is too horrible. I can't - I really can't imagine how I can live without him.

TRISH doesn't know what to say.

Silence.

AMY: I'm sorry.

TRISH: It's ok.

Pause

TRISH: Did your parents come and see you this morning?

AMY nods
