Lucy-Lou - First Page

HAYLEY AND SAMUEL'S APARTMENT - EARLY EVENING
HAYLEY is sitting on a couch, staring into space, hardly breathing or blinking. She is in a trance. The phone is off the hook.

SAMUEL comes breezing in the door. He is happy and somewhat excited. He glances over at HAYLEY from behind her as he throws his keys on a table.

SAMUEL: Hey, beautiful.

HAYLEY doesn't respond, but he's putting down his briefcase and taking off his tie so he doesn't notice. SAMUEL races over to HAYLEY, gives her a quick peck on the side of her cheek.

SAMUEL: Where is she?

HAYLEY doesn't respond, but SAMUEL is still too excited to really notice.

SAMUEL: Where's my teeny tiny little girl?

No response.

SAMUEL: (worried) You okay, babe? Hales?

HAYLEY curls up on the couch in foetal position.

SAMUEL: I know it's hard for you, babe. I can only imagine what it's like all day, every day, on your own with her - and I know she gets out of control sometimes, but I'm gonna take a couple of days off soon -

No response.

SAMUEL: Hayley?

He tries to give her a gentle hug. She pulls away.

HAYLEY: She was so bad today.

SAMUEL: Did you give her the medicine?

HAYLEY nods.

SAMUEL: Did it calm her down?
HAYLEY just looks at him, exhausted on all levels.

SAMUEL: I'm home now, and I'll look after her tonight. You lie down, close your eyes, and let her Daddy take over.

SAMUEL starts to head into the bedroom.

SAMUEL: Where's my little darlin' girl? My little Lucy-Lou.

HAYLEY grabs his arm.
