Glory Days - First Page

INNER CITY BAR - SATURDAY NIGHT
It's an inner city pub with a few tables, some used glasses etc.

ZAC is playing darts on his own. He has a couple of beers lined up on the table next to him, and seems to be in his own world.

Unseen by ZAC, DANNY arrives, also by himself. He looks around, sees ZAC and does a double take. Couldn't be. But it is.

DANNY has to decide whether to leave or stay. He turns and walks to the door, as ZAC looks up and sees him. Thinking DANNY hasn't seem him, ZAC now has a choice whether to attract DANNY's attention or not. He turns with his back to DANNY to consider. At the same time, they both decide they will call out and turn back to face each other.

DANNY: Zac?
ZAC: Danny?

They meet in the middle and embrace like friends from the past. But there's a sense of "putting on a good face" from both of them.

DANNY: I thought it was you!

ZAC: It's good to see you.

DANNY: You too.

One of those situations where nobody knows what to say.

ZAC: So ...how are things?

DANNY: Good, and you?

ZAC: Good! Great.

Silence.

DANNY: So you've been ...

DANNY: Good?
ZAC: Good, yeah.

DANNY: That's great, man.

Beat.

ZAC: And -

ZAC: You? Good?
DANNY: Real good. Yeah.

Beat.

DANNY: God, how long has it been?

ZAC: I don't know. Have we seen each other since school?

DANNY: Yeah, well ... you know ... Mr Lambert's funeral ...

ZAC: Oh yeah. That's right. Great teacher, hey?

DANNY: Sure was.

Silence.

ZAC: (looks around) You meeting someone?

DANNY: (lies) Yeah ... looks like she's not here yet. You? Been stood up?

He gives him a good natured punch on the arm.

ZAC: (laughs) As if. No, I ... um ... (lies) was just leaving actually, for an all night party. It's gonna be wild.

DANNY looks at the two beers.

ZAC: Thought I'd get a buzz on here first. Hate turning up straight. You know.
