Don’t Walk Away Rene - First Page

AMANDA AND TAMMY'S APARTMENT - EARLY EVENING
AMANDA is wearing rubber gloves, and an overall or big t-shirt so she doesn't get her clothes dirty. She is putting the finishing touches to cleaning the apartment - spray and wiping, straightening things etc. She puts a fresh bunch of flowers into a vase and takes care arranging them nicely.

She sorts through the CD and DVD collection, taking out a few here and there which she puts aside. She stops at one DVD and laughs fondly at a memory - and puts it aside with the ones she's extracted. She puts the others back with the main pile in the DVD stand / cabinet.

She looks around - all looks good. She lights a stick of incense, waves it around for a few seconds, and then places it in a stand or a pot plant.

She picks up the CD's/DVD's she's kept out, and puts them in one of the two suitcases she's packed. The top DVD, the one she reminisced over - she picks up, thinks, and takes back to the stand / cabinet and places it with the rest.

She takes a big breath - she obviously has a lot of opposing feelings about what she's doing. She takes off the rubber gloves and overall garment and puts them in a cupboard in the kitchen area.

She hears someone approaching, and looks at her watch then at the clock. Obviously she didn't expect anyone till later. She takes a huge breath. This is going to be very difficult.

But instead of a key in the door, there's a knock.

RENEE: (O/S) Tammy?

AMANDA is relieved that it isn't Tammy at the door.

AMANDA: She's not here, Renee.

RENEE: (O/S) Oh - hi, Amanda. Um ... Tammy was gonna meet me here. I'm a bit early.

AMANDA reluctantly heads to the door and opens it.

AMANDA: Hi.

RENEE: Are you ok?

AMANDA: Yeah.

RENEE puts her hand on AMANDA's arm.

RENEE: You sure?

AMANDA flinches almost imperceptibly and pulls away.

AMANDA: Yeah - truly - I'm fine. C'mon in.

RENEE enters, and looks around.

RENEE: God - I'm sorry - are you expecting someone for dinner or something?

AMANDA: No, why?

RENEE: Well, the place looks great ... freshly ... something'd.

AMANDA: Oh - no, just spring cleaning. You know. Every now and then I get the urge.

RENEE: Wanna come and get the urge at my place?

AMANDA: (tight laugh) Ah ... not really. Anyway, you're hardly ever there - how can it get untidy?

Awkward silence. She didn't mean it to sound like that.
