STREET OUTSIDE EMILY'S APARTMENT - MORNING
EMILY is standing outside her apartment block. She checks her watch. She dials a number on her cell phone.

EMILY: (impatient, into cell phone) David, it's Emily. I thought you were meeting me here at 10 o'clock. It's now quarter to eleven. I will wait another 5 minutes. Call me.

She puts her cell phone away. Stands there annoyed and frustrated. She gets out her phone again, finds a piece of paper in her bag, and dials another number.

EMILY: Hello, is that Ron? Hi it's Emily here ... I'm coming over to look at your car this morning? ... Yes, well, my friend hasn't turned up yet so ... but I'll be there ... no ... wait ... (listens, deflated) ... ok. Thanks.

She hangs up. Is furious. Is about to walk off when DAVID appears.

DAVID: Sorry.

She sees him.

EMILY: (upset) Okay, David. I just have to say this is the last time you let me down.

DAVID: (good naturedly) You said that last time. And the time before.

EMILY: It's my own fault. I don't know why I keep thinking you'll be where you say you'll be, when you say you'll be there.

DAVID: (He's heard it before) Well, I'm here now, so let's just go ... what's the address?

EMILY: I am not a stupid person. Why have I put up with this for all these years.

DAVID: What's the address!

EMILY: It's too late. That guy sold the car to someone else. You have, once again -

DAVID: Em, I'm sorry. I got home late last night and forgot to set the alarm.

EMILY: See, I don't care what the reason is any more. In fact, that's pretty lame compared to your usual stories. Couldn't you think of a better lie!

DAVID: I think you should calm down a bit.

EMILY: Really?

DAVID: Yes! You're way too stressed and it's not good for you. (charmingly) And as stressed is desserts backwards, let's go and have some chocolate mud cake and strong, s-t-r-o-n-g coffee.

EMILY: No! I do not want to have cake or anything else with you ...
