Notes on All That Glitters

All That Glitters presents the actors with an opportunity to traverse a range of emotional states. The relationship and emotional obligations are both challenging and accessable for the actors.

There are several sources of tension in the scene. From the most apparent - "what are you doing here after abandoning me" to the most hidden - "how do I get him to agree without hurting him even more than I have already".

Helena's motivation is largely based in fear. For Helena, fear of losing her new found status justify's her actions. Her need is strong. The actor playing Helena has an opportunity to deeply personalise this need. As she pursues this need she will be affected by her partner. Does she have to fight a part of herself that would dearly love to return to the old relationship - or this a ruse?

Luke is stuck. Helena finds him, predictably doing what he does every Saturday morning. It is clear he hasn't moved on. The actor playing Luke has the opportunity in this scene to explore feelings of hurt, regret and anger. At the same time he must find the part in him that softens in her presence even after all that has happened.
